In 2023, Apex was contracted by Eskilstuna Track & Resort (ETR) and Volvo Construction Equipment to prepare a comprehensive Master Plan and to review and progress a track plan, an initiative that has been evolving for the past decade. The Master Plan services included the integration of a track extension to achieve an international FIA license and the addition of several Rallycross links, creating a mixed-surface track suitable for hosting a round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The FIA Grade 6R track will establish a new benchmark for permanent Rallycross circuits worldwide and serve as a prestigious home for the Volvo CE Rallycross team.

The proposed motorsport resort in Sweden aims to set a global standard for sustainable motorsport resorts, striving not only to minimize the environmental impact of motorsport but also to offer an unparalleled track experience. The driving activities are centered around four core facilities, catering to both competitive and leisure driving experiences:

  • FIA Grade 4 Circuit

  • FIA Grade 6R Rallycross Circuit

  • Mixed Surface Driving Experience Centre

  • Leisure Karting Experience

Placed at the core of the development proposals is ETR’s commitment to sustainability, which is evident through several strategies aimed at promoting environmental responsibility throughout the development process. These strategies include:

  • Utilizing green spaces to break up built-up areas and preserving portions of the site for the retention of the local environment.

  • Retaining large native trees and geological features to support local biodiversity.

  • Using grass wherever possible on the race track to enhance the circuit’s aesthetics.

  • Implementing low carbon construction methods by predominantly using recycled materials.

  • Producing solar energy onsite.

  • Employing next-generation construction machinery with limited emissions, in partnership with Volvo CE.

  • Managing water sustainably through collection and infiltration within onsite soakaways.

  • Adopting converted container solutions for many of the buildings on site.

These strategies collectively aim to establish the proposed motorsport resort in Sweden as a premier example of sustainable development in the motorsport industry.

Apex has combined ETR’s current progress with a future development wish-list, input from local stakeholders, environmental strategies and contemporary FIA regulations for circuit safety and operation, to create a cohesive Master Plan. This plan will guide Eskilstuna Track & Resort in realizing their vision, focusing future efforts on phased development. Apex is proud to contribute to this extraordinary project and looks forward to witnessing the circuit's development over time.
